Bon Niche Cellars started in 2005 when Wally and Joyce
Murray began their quest to find vineyard property in the Central Coast of
California. The result of their
search was a beautiful slope with a spectacular view of the distant hills
to the west. The rich soil, hot
days and brisk nights were perfect for the French varietals that grow so well in
the Paso Robles terroir. The
Murray's vineyard was quickly planted with Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Combined with fruit from nearby vineyards the artisan blends are primarily Bordeaux style with a touch of Rhone.
Bon Niche™ Cellars is currently producing single varietals of
Malbec, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Chardonnay along with five to eight red blends,
under the brand names of Bon Niche™ and it's cousin label Birdland Cellars. Both brands can be acquired through Bon Niche Cellars.
The remote vineyard, just on the fringe of civilization
makes having a full time tasting room prohibitive. For the moderately
adventuresome, the drive on partially unpaved road is well worth the trip on
those weekends when county wide events take place, wine club parties are
scheduled, or you have arranged for a wine tasting of your own.
